Alh. R.O. Raheem- Director of Operation- NAMA and Dr Ola Orekunrin- MD- Flying Doctors Nigeria
The Nigerian health sector in recent times could use as much growth as it could muster as not much attention is being paid to it. Discussing the way forward, especially in the area of air ambulance, The Flying Doctor Nigeria, the only specialist air ambulance service provider in Nigeria held a meeting recently with Nigerian Airspace management Agency (NAMA) to discuss the clearing/navigational procedures for air ambulance journeys.
NAMA further reiterated its support for the work of The Flying Doctors Nigeria, stating that clearance for air ambulance transports has been and must continue to be a priority.
‘The purpose of the airspace authority is to protect life and property, the only instance we would prioritise anything over an air ambulance journey, would be the case of an aircraft in distress’ says Alhaji R.O Raheem, Director of operations, NAMA.
Also speaking at the meeting with NAMA, Dr Ola Orekunrin, helicopter pilot, medical physician and managing director of the Flying Doctors Nigeria said, ‘Our relationship with the airspace authorities is absolutely essential. And we appreciate their support and guidance especially with regard to our safety profile. They are a brilliant example a government authority working effectively and efficiently for the good of the nation’
The Flying Doctors Nigeria is the leading air ambulance provider in Nigeria with clientele across the oil & gas, manufacturing and construction industry. Their skilled team of specialist flight physicians save hundreds of lives every year. Supported by NAMA they are able to achieve response times of as little as 10-20 minutes. Majority of rescue missions take place within the country, moving critically ill patients from more remote areas to landing sites at their partner hospitals across Lagos and Abuja.
